I've come to learn that in life, if something is meant to be it will happen. Boy was I wrong and I'm so happy that I was. I didn't know how I was going to accomplish such a lofty goal and tried not to get my hopes up.įast forward to December. Her words to me were, "don't worry honey, you will get there". I talked to a dear friend about the trip and how I'd love to go but that I didn't see how it would ever be possible. More than anything, I wanted to experience that feeling of unspeakable joy myself. The joy of knowing that I was able to help someone and give them a chance to experience something wonderful in return.Hope I wanted a way to get them to understand the essence of a brigade and what to expect. I wanted to improve the morale of the group of brigaders set to depart on January 6th. However, I have a myriad of wonderful memories and experiences (some of which I will share in the coming days :-) stowed in my mind and heart. I didn't document my last trip very well.I took very few pictures because I didn't own a camera (I used my camera phone o_O) and I didn't keep a diary. It bothered me because, that day I was thinking about my last brigade and how it will forever be an eye opening, life changing event in my life. Here I was, all fired up with positive energy and fundraising ideas, however, not many people were showing enthusiasm for this amazing initiative. I was sad, but determined to help raise money with the group of brigaders at Queens College to help fund the cost of medical supplies and equipment. I went to the first meeting held on the Queens College campus and noticed there were very few people in attendance. Let's just say, I wasn't in the position to fund a nearly $2000 trip to Nicaragua. Thank God I wasn't the cliché, "eating ramen noodles day in and day out" broke but the kind of broke where I have to be prudent where my extra funds went, or I would be stocking up on the 5 for dollar sodium laden hypertension in a pouch dinners. It was the beginning of the fall semester, and I had just coughed up a pretty penny to pay for my graduate studies (actually many, many pennies). I decided to start a blog after a string of events that occurred over the past few months. I can't wait to take you all on this amazing journey! Over the next few weeks I will post pictures and videos of this wonderful experience for you all to see. Two more weeks of nail biting, packing, vaccinations, and hopefully the completion of a long to-do list. ![]() Only 14 days until my departure to Nicaragua! ![]()
